This position reports to the Leader, Drafting and Surveying. Position provides electrical & instrumentation drawings for Engineering projects as well as those required by various company projects. Drawings and sketches, produced using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software packages, provide information for bid & construction projects, to obtain electrical easements, and to document the completed construction projects. (Job placement will be consistent with experience, and all skill levels meeting or exceeding Minimum Qualifications shall be considered.)


Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide technical support to design engineers by creating designs based on engineering scopes and specifications
  • Prepare detailed drawings in accordance with company standards, procedures, and specifications for use in modification or construction of natural gas compressor stations, meter & regulation facilities, valve settings, and catcher & launcher facilities
  • Prepare detailed plans, details, schematics, conduit schedules, and bill of materials sheets in accordance with company standards, procedures, and specifications for use in modification or construction of natural gas pipelines, pipeline relocations, reroutes, and class location studies
  • Prepare electrical exhibits required to obtain permits from state agencies
  • Communicate with Engineers, Land, and Environmental to determine drawing requirements, obtain technical advice, report status, and establish priorities
  • Estimate time required to complete work assignments

Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is an indoor office cubicle arrangement with controlled temperatures
  • Most of the day is spent viewing a computer monitor
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Overtime is required to meet project deadlines
  • Minimal overnight travel is required



  • Associate Degree or a technical school diploma in technical or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in Design as a CAD Drafter
  • Knowledge of MicroStation CAD or AutoCAD systems


  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical field or a 4-year technology degree
  • Knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation Design is desired
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Design is desired
  • Experience in Natural Gas Industry is also desired
  • 3 years’ experience in Design or 5+ years’ experience in Design as a CAD Drafter
  • Ability to mentor lower classification drafters with project support
  • Knowledge of MicroStation CAD systems is desired
