Overview

This position reports to the Controller and is responsible for the direction and oversight of the Company’s Plant and Utility Accounting Department.  This position is responsible for the overall leadership, implementation of strategies, and management oversight in these areas, including compliance with related accounting regulations and work direction in the property accounting area.  A significant level of technical expertise, independent thought and action, and managerial skills, are required.

The Manager, Plant and Utility Accounting analyzes and oversees 1) the classification of costs incurred in the construction, acquisition, and/or retirement of company assets included in gas plant; 2) calculation of depreciation, depletion, amortization, ARO and AFUDC related to gas plant 3) all entries recorded on the Company’s book and records for both GAAP and FERC accounting related to this area, this position is responsible for all property accounting functions of the Company.  This function maintains all asset records for the Company and provides oversight of all related reporting and disclosure requirements.  This function also monitors and researches proposed accounting pronouncements to assess potential impact to the Company, and develop implementation procedures for applicable standards. This position also develops and exercises key internal controls related to the property accounting function.

  • Ensure maintenance of and adherence to applicable internal controls
  • Develop and coordinate various and appropriate data and reports related to property, plant & equipment
  • Meet all regulatory compliance requirements, including capitalization and depreciation of property
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Significant experience in property accounting, and/or FERC accounting
  • Experience in a leadership role or position
  • 5-8 years’ experience in senior position
  • Understanding of and ability to apply FERC and/or GAAP regulations as they relate to accounting for gas plant
  • Ability to comprehend, develop, perform, and explain internal controls to mitigate financial risk
  • Ability to diplomatically and thoroughly defend capitalization positions
  • Grammatically correct written communication skills
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality output within required deadlines
  • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects
  • Negotiations or consensus-building experience
  • Ability to teach area of expertise one-on-one and in small groups
  • Ability to research, comprehend, interpret and make recommendations on capitalization and depreciation regulations and related impact on Company and owners
  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge of spreadsheet and database tools

Preferred:

 

  • CPA certificate
