Overview

This position offers a variety of opportunities including analysis of measurement data related to volume, quality, and system loss rates.  Activities can include but are not limited to data analysis, analysis methodology improvement projects, and audit projects. Position includes partnering with multiple internal departments including Business Intelligence, Field Measurement Services, and Rates.  

Interns will typically support one or more experienced measurement analysts in the performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of measurement. They may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the Southern Star community and with fellow interns.

This is a paid summer internship.  Summer internships are 12-weeks in length and start no earlier than May 2022, and end no later than August 2022.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

Business Intelligence

  • Learn how to effectively use data analytics tools including PI Vision and Power BI to support measurement analysis efforts in verifying day-to-day volume and quality measurement; Support department by building dashboards to help predict and analyze real-time data; Manages and/or conducts training programs to ensure a high level of expertise of personnel utilizing measurement analytics

Loss and Unaccounted for Gas (LUG)

  • Ongoing monitoring/recommendations for LUG, including meter characteristic audits (K factor verification, plate size, atmospheric pressure, etc) Evaluate line segments and investigate root causes to anomalies; analyze gas drained activity and assist in maintaining accurate monthly reporting; Analyze competitor LUG rates to benchmark against; Lead monthly LUG meetings discussing current LUG metrics and introduce new ideas on LUG improvement initiatives; Complete additional LUG tasks as directed.

Closing Activities

  • Provide support to monthly measurement closing activities, including exception monitoring, analyzing meters to zero report, backfilling missing data gaps, field vs computed data variance analysis, and other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • You must be 18 years of age by the start of the summer internship assignment and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 after each completed semester/term.
  • You must be a US Citizen or US Person
  • Sophomore candidate must be in your second year of studies
  • Junior candidate must be planning on graduating with a Bachelor’s degree OR combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree and entering the workforce on a full-time basis
  • Senior or graduate candidate must be in your fourth year of studies, are enrolled as a fifth-year senior, plan on graduating with a Bachelor’s degree, and plan on entering the workforce on a full time basis; OR, have completed your Bachelor’s degree at the time of your internship, plan on graduating with a Master’s Degree, and plan on entering the workforce on a full time basis.
