This position offers a variety of opportunities including shadowing and assisting survey team employees to gain a better understanding of pipeline surveying and the pipeline industry.   

 

Interns will typically support one or more experienced surveyors in meeting both departmental and corporate objectives. This individual will have the opportunity to become an instrumental part of the daily operations activities, including assisting in daily activities and other projects related to surveying. This individual will participate in the performance of assignments, spend time shadowing pipeline surveyors, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of the survey team.  This includes performing site surveys, attending training sessions, and the processing and organizing of survey data in an office setting.  They may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the Southern Star community and with fellow interns.

 

A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the Southern Star work location if the successful candidate’s permanent home address and current college address is determined by Southern Star to be greater than reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location. Your role designation will be a flex worksite. Position will be primarily onsite in the field however; flex schedule may allow for some remote work.

 

This is a paid summer internship.  Summer internships are 10-12 weeks in length and start no earlier than May 2023 and end no later than August 2023.

 

Responsibilities

Assist/support the Survey team members daily by performing some of the following tasks:

  • Operate, clean, and maintain surveying equipment including prism pole, level rod, tape measure, GPS receivers, Total Stations, and Data Collectors.
  • Assist and perform surveys to determine precise locations, measurements, and identify facilities in accordance with company standards.
  • Record and provide clear concise survey data and notes to drafting and engineering colleagues in accordance with company standards.
  • Communicate with internal and external business partners as required to complete surveying assignments.
  • Assist in the researching and gathering of information required to complete surveying duties including placing “Design Ticket” one call utility locates.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and navigate to numerous locations in the Company’s system.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Operations Summer Internship:

  • You must be 18 years of age by the start of the summer internship assignment and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 after each completed semester/term.
  • You must be a US Citizen or US Person
  • You must be a currently enrolled in a Technical College Program pursuing an Associate degree or a Junior or Senior pursing a Bachelors in a Land Surveying related field.
  • Planning to pursue a career in land surveying and pipeline operations.
