Overview

The environmental specialist ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations in support of Company operations, maintenance, and construction activities. The specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance and support to various company departments concerning compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, the specialist provides support to other environmental staff members in the achievement of land and environment department tasks.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to various company departments concerning compliance with environmental regulations
  • Prepare and submit documents related to gaining federal or state authorization for company activities or demonstrating compliance with applicable regulations to the respective agencies
  • Monitor regulatory initiatives, estimate potential impacts to company and participate in the process involved in the rulemaking
  • Drafting and procuring permits for wetlands and waterbodies, endangered species, cultural resources, and other state/federal permits and clearances
  • Provides support to other environmental staff members to enhance development and productivity  
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies in support of company functions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Entry-level to 3 years environmental work experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel or related programs
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of gas pipeline operations
  • Ability to work independently in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
  • Experience writing various NEPA documents
  • Experience drafting and procuring permits for wetlands and waterbody, endangered species, cultural resource, and other state and federal permits and/or clearances
  • Experience with USACE, USFWS, SHPO, and FERC regulated natural gas pipelines
