Overview

This position is responsible for the basic level installation, monitoring, maintenance of corrosion mitigation systems, related auxiliary facilities and equipment in a designated area of a natural gas system utilizing close technical support and supervisory guidance.

Responsibilities

Duties

 

  • Become familiar with SSCGP policies, procedures, and O&M manual
  • Become familiar with CFR 192 subsection I
  • Internally interface with all levels of Operations personnel and accept assigned responsibilities
  • Perform at a satisfactory level while maintaining positive and ethical relationships with others including customers, consultants and vendors
  • The technician will receive work related guidance from senior level Corrosion Technicians and Corrosion support personnel
  • Install, monitor, test, and repair cathodic protection facilities (anode ground beds, rectifiers, remote monitors, and other corrosion mitigation systems)
  • Perform pipeline corrosion surveys (pipe-to-soil, atmospheric, bond, casings, and rectifier) and maintains records for appropriate Company and regulatory requirements
  • Acquire the skills necessary to operate test equipment to identify cathodic protection facility problems and assist in making repairs as required
  • Become familiar with natural gas properties and proper handling procedures associated
  • Become a competent person for excavation activities
  • Become qualified on Common Covered Tasks (OQ) as deemed necessary by Corrosion Management
  • Become familiar with the policies and procedures related to performing pipeline inspections
  • Assist qualified personnel on validation digs to become familiar with the process
  • Become familiar with SSCGP procedure 70.14.01, Pipe and fitting leak and defect repair procedure
  • Become familiar with the Pipeline Toolbox software and its applicable tools
  • Become familiar with SSCGP coating systems and their applications
  • Become familiar with internal corrosion monitoring devices and basic guidelines for performing MIC tests
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Two-year associate degree, related certification, or work experience as determined by the Company
  • 0-3 years’ Corrosion related experience
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability
  • Basic Computer Skills –Windows based and Microsoft Office Programs
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Demonstrate satisfactory oral and written communication skills, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a scheduled structured, deadline driven environment

Preferred:

  • Previous pipeline experience
  • Corrosion training/work experience
  • Knowledge of CFR 192 regulations
