Overview

This position is responsible for the reputation, brand, and how the company is perceived. The specialist will execute a communication plan that meets the needs of other employees and the media. This position is responsible for a wide range of communications-related tasks such as writing, editing, videography, photography, content creation, crisis response, and public relations. Team member must be able to develop relationships (sources) at all levels across and outside of the company including employees, customers, government representatives, media, and public to tell stories visually and/or verbally in a way to inform, educate, celebrate, inspire, or support as appropriate. Must be able to learn, use and recommend communications tools and methods and maximize their use. Will be constantly on the lookout for how to modernize Company’s approach to communications and assist with public/governmental relations. This position will be the Company’s face and voice. The specialist must be available in real-time wherever and whenever needed to communicate/report in real-time.

 

The specialist will handle assignments that range in complexity and require the use of experience, innovation, and judgment. The specialist must have the ability to plan and conduct work requiring independent evaluation, assumes responsibility for contribution to the success of projects, and will exercise autonomy for unviewed decisions. The specialist must have the ability to function in lead capacity and mentor other personnel and on occasion may supervise work of others on assigned projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Creating, representing, and maximizing our brand effectively and consistently
  • Creating compelling communications visually, verbally, and in writing
  • Managing the communications aspects of crises
  • Creating a consistently comprehensive corporate communications strategy to enhance our image, strategies, and goals
  • Creating communications using different media platforms
  • Assisting with design and copy for all forms of corporate communications
  • Producing memorable events for the Company
  • Being a continuous learner by actively learning more about our industry and Company
  • Modernizing our company website, intranet, and social media sites
  • Continuously monitor analytics and industry tracking tools to evaluate communication tactics
  • Helping develop an on-trend stockpile of photos, videos, templates, animations, logos, and potential designs
  • Learning and cross-training on all communication functions
  • Developing and executing project plans, defining tasks, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The position will specialize in video production and AV equipment usage:

 

  • Conceptualize, script, shoot, and edit video content that aligns with the organization’s communication goals and messaging.
  • Adapting video content for various platforms, considering optimal formats, lengths, and specifications for social media, websites, and other channels.
  • Managing AV equipment for livestreaming events, including camera setup, audio configuration, and coordination with online platforms.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV equipment for events, presentations, and meetings to ensure seamless audio and visual experiences.
  • Coordinating with external AV service providers for larger events or specialized AV needs, ensuring smooth collaboration and optimal outcomes.
  • Maintaining documentation on AV setups, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures for future reference.
  • Providing training and technical support to team members on the proper use of AV equipment, ensuring they are equipped to handle basic setups.
  • Managing video production projects from concept to completion, coordinating with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Conducting quality checks on audio and visual elements to maintain a high standard of production quality across all communication materials.
  • Staying informed about video production trends, technologies, and industry best practices, integrating innovative approaches into video content.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Information Science, Broadcasting, Media Production, or related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience in photograph and video production including script writing, lighting audio recording, videography, video editing, video exporting/delivery, and basic video graphic creation such as title slates and lower thirds
  • Experience with desktop publishing software, MS Office software, Google Analytics, Adobe applications (e.g., Photoshop, Premier Pro, Illustrator, and InDesign) and web content management platforms
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and efficient manner
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts for a varied audience
  • Appropriately and effectively manage all aspects of crisis communications under stress
  • Ability to work under stress while effectively interacting with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive materials
  • Ability to meet deadlines, make decisions, and solve problems independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to develop and maintain successful relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to create and use appropriate metrics to analyze effectiveness of communications efforts
  • Experience creating, reviewing and deploying content (integrated, complementary, or standalone) for multiple media platforms (e.g., written, broadcast, recorded, photographic, ) for varied audiences, internal and external
  • Represents Company at public events in a comfortable, confident manner
  • Ability to travel 10% by car and/or plane
  • Scheduling flexibility when job demands require

 

Preferred:

  • Experience managing social media accounts, creating social media content, and scheduling posts (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram
  • Experience in graphic design with a strong understanding of design principles, layout, color theory, and typography.
  • Experience writing press releases or media pitches
  • Experience interacting with media outlets
  • Experience in marketing and/or web design
  • Experience in marketing or communications strategy planning
  • Experience producing TV news packages or documentary-style videos
