Overview

This position collaborates directly with engineering and works as a member of a survey crew in the field performing surveys for pipeline route selection, site acquisitions, and pipeline integrity. The surveyor is responsible for providing, completing and tracking survey activities and deadlines for engineered projects as well as those required by various company projects related to the development and execution of natural gas facilities. The surveyor will provide detailed surveys for bid and construction projects and document the completed construction projects. This position communicates with project team members and third-party contracted resources to effectively oversee design related investments and improvements being made to the company’s infrastructure and supports the land survey activities for the company. The surveyor is expected to work independently with minimal supervision while performing surveys for various pipeline projects and report to management on significant variances in schedules. This position may be assigned to a structured training program designed to provide interdisciplinary experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Coordinating some third-party surveys and conducting surveys to determine precise land locations, measurements, and identify facilities
  • Monitoring and reporting progress of third-party performance, and quality
  • Communicating with internal and external business partners to determine needs and satisfaction, status, and priorities, and to obtain technical advice
  • Facilitating the resolution of disputes and claims
  • Estimating the time required to complete assigned work products
  • Researching and gathering information to complete required surveys
  • Coordinating and overseeing the land survey responsibilities of the Company in a timely manner
  • Performing various duties associated with the position as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) or Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) Certification
  • Education requirements for PLS licensing
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in land surveying
  • Experience using Trimble Survey Equipment, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, NOAA’s OPUS, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with practical survey and pipeline construction methods, including survey control, boundary recovery, topographic survey, construction staking, and as-built methodologies
  • Ability to analyze problems and make sound and prompt decisions with appropriate coordination with leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed to complete surveys
  • Strong sense of urgency, with outstanding prioritization skills and professionalism
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of GIS surveying technology
  • Well organized, willing to take initiative, and work independently
  • Ability to work well with others throughout the organization.
  • Overnight travel (25%-50%) is required.
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or similar degree type
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience with utility transmission route surveying
  • Desire to build personal, specific knowledge of the land surveying field through research
  • Desire to keep current on updates and trends in new Survey equipment and software
