Overview

This entry-level position reports directly to the Leader, Drafting & Surveying, Design Engineering and will work as a member of a survey crew in the field performing surveys for pipeline route selection, site acquisitions, and pipeline integrity under the leadership and supervision of more experienced team members.

 

The assistant surveyor is responsible for aiding in the completion of survey activities and deadlines for engineering projects as well as those required by various Company projects related to the development and execution of natural gas facilities. The assistant surveyor will support in providing detailed surveys for bid and construction projects and document the completed construction projects. This position communicates with project team members and third-party contracted resources to aid in the support of land survey activities. The assistant surveyor may be assigned to a structured training program designed to provide interdisciplinary experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Clear brush, load and unload, carry, set-up and use survey equipment
  • Operate a motor vehicle and navigate to numerous locations in the Company’s system
  • Operate, clean, and maintain surveying equipment including prism pole, level rod, tape measure, GPS receivers, Total Stations, and Data Collectors
  • Assists and performs surveys to determine precise land locations, measurements, and identify facilities in accordance with company standards
  • Record and provide clear concise survey data and notes to drafting and engineering colleagues in accordance with company standards
  • Communicates with internal and external business partners as required to complete surveying assignments
  • Assists in the researching and gathering of information required to complete surveying duties including placing “Design Ticket” one call utility locates when required
  • Follows all safety protocols and procedures
  • Performs various duties associated with the position as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Entry-level experience in land surveying
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic skill level in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to learn the operation of Trimble GPS receivers, Total Stations, and Data Collectors
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn data management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of drawings and maps
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability
  • Overnight travel (25%-50%) is required

 

Preferred:

  • Education requirements for PLS licensing
  • Experience in land surveying
  • Knowledge of natural gas related industry
  • Knowledge of CAD systems
