Overview

This position reports to and is directly accountable to the Manager, Measurement Services and provides technical expertise and troubleshooting support to the measurement technicians and field operating personnel (by phone, PC, or on-site) in the primary functions of gas measurement, gas regulating and flow control, and gas quality. The specialist develops and presents training to enhance the skills and technical competence of field personnel and participates in studies and team projects to enhance the overall safety, reliability, and efficiency of the gas transmission system.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Prevention:

  • Operate & troubleshoot chromatographs and analyzers (moisture, O2, H2S, etc.)
  • Knowledge of operation of custody and non-custody meters
  • Operate EFM & AMR meters such as: orifice, rotary, turbine, PD, and ultrasonic
  • Accurately check for moisture and CO2 utilizing portable analyzers and Drager tubes
  • Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic and electronic controls, including gap controllers, pressure & differential transmitters, PLCs and transducers
  • Ensure the reliability of regulators and relief valves.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of equipment used by or associated with position
  • Knowledge of operation of Auto Pilot Pro and Control Micro System flow computers
  • Perform diagnostic and troubleshooting for electronic equipment
  • Knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of metering and regulating equipment
  • Perform basic diagnostics on ultrasonic meters

 

Calibration:

  • EFM & AMR meters
  • Regulators
  • Relief valves
  • Meters – orifice, USM, rotary, PD
  • Gas chromatographs

 

Compliance:

  • Complete required documentation and paperwork in timely manner
  • Schedule and track maintenance and calibration activities with measurement software 
  • Understand and comply with applicable Company policies and procedures, maintenance manuals, safety policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Identify and report safety and environmental concerns

 

Analysis:

  • Develop new operating, maintenance, inspection and testing criteria and review changes to policies and procedures for consistency with industry standards
  • Participate in studies and team projects and make recommendations to enhance the overall safety, reliability and efficiency of the gas transmission system
  • Provide technical input into and assist in the development of strategic plans for the implementation of new equipment, systems, and processes
  • Read, interpret, and recommend modifications to blueprints, schematics, control drawings, and pipeline maps

 

Training & Collaboration:

  • Maintain awareness of the most current technology and equipment advances through research, training, and participation in industry associations
  • Develop course content and present training to enhance the skills and technical competence of field personnel
  • Ability to use computer-based maintenance management software to schedule and track activities

 

Project Management:

  • Assist in the design and specification of equipment required for the modification of existing the construction of new measurement related facilities
  • Assist project completions through on-site inspection, testing and commissioning of new facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Entry-level experience
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent experience directly related to gas measurement, pressure and flow control, and gas quality determination in a natural gas system
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work successfully in teams
  • Ability to be organized and work independently
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability
  • Ability to effectively prioritize in a high stress environment

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline, i.e., Engineering Technology with emphasis in communication systems, electronics, or related field
  • Experience working with electronic measurement, communications, PLCs, and SCADA equipment as used in natural gas transmission
  • Experience in natural gas industry
  • Experience developing and delivering training curricula in area of expertise

 

Other requirements:

  • Working environment will require exposure to gas handling facilities, construction sites and outdoor elements
  • Overnight travel (< 50%) is required
