Overview

This position collaborates directly with engineering and is responsible for providing, completing and tracking drawings and deadlines for engineered projects as well as those required by various company projects related to the development and execution of natural gas facilities. The designer will produce drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other CAD software packages, to provide information for bid and construction projects, and document the completed construction projects. This position communicates with project team members and third-party contracted resources to effectively oversee design related investments and improvements being made to the company’s infrastructure. The Designer is expected to work independently in completing their task, using a variety of programs to track design progress, and report to management on significant variances in schedules. Design related tasks include but are not limited to, pipeline, measurement, regulation, compression, electrical (E&I), storage, gas storage equipment and facilities. Work experience and company / industry training will familiarize employee with processes, procedures, guidelines, regulations, and policies of the company, departments, and industry. Designer may be assigned to a structured training program designed to provide interdisciplinary experience. Demonstrates professional conduct and business ethics.

 

Job placement will be consistent with experience, and all skill levels meeting or exceeding minimum qualifications shall be considered.

Responsibilities

Job Reponsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to engineers by creating designs based on engineering scope and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed drawings in accordance with company standards, procedures, and specifications for use in modification or construction of natural gas compressor stations, meter & regulation facilities, valve settings, and launcher & catcher facilities.
  • Communicate with internal business partners to determine needs and level of satisfaction, to determine current priorities, and to obtain technical advice and determine drawing requirements.
  • Report on project status.
  • Establish priorities.
  • Estimate time required to complete work assignments.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of applicable technologies.
  • Perform supervised work on development and implementation of Company design standards and specifications.
  • Assist in the Management of Change process.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Audit and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure auditable documents are consistent and complete (as-builts)
  • Work alongside other groups within the organization to design and deploy process improvement initiatives
  • Continually work to improve processes related to drawing databases, forms/data management, and AutoCAD Applications

 

This position will specialize in one or more focus areas, including but not limited to:

 

Electrical E&I:

Prepare detailed electrical Site Plan, Hazardous Area Classification, Electrical Yard Plans, Conduit & Cable Schedules, Block Diagram, P&ID’s, Electrical and Instrumentation details in accordance with company standards, procedures, and specifications for use in modification or construction of natural gas pipelines, remote controlled valves, measurement and regulation settings, and station PLC’s.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associates or Technical Degree in Computer Aided Drafting/Design, or similar field
  • Entry level understanding of CAD standards, features and annotation styles, line styles, and drawing setup
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products
  • Ability to apply technical concepts
  • Ability to understand and apply directions, policies, procedures, guidelines, requirements, and regulations.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment.
  • Develop the ability to work and collaborate with others throughout the organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and math aptitude
  • Entry level skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to produce results under tight deadlines.
  • Well organized, highly analytical and detail oriented
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field or combination of education and
  • 2 years of experience in applying drafting principles toward the design, construction, or operations of natural gas facilities.
  • Experience in a natural gas industry.
  • Ability to communicate technical information.
  • Familiarity with survey data.
  • Familiarity of mapping and piping design, mechanical design, or electrical design.
  • Familiarity of Federal regulations and Industry standards including CFR DOT 192, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, API 5L, ANSI B16.5, AGA Reports, NEC, ASME Y14 etc.
