Overview

The Reliability Engineer II helps support the analysis, planning, design, construction, alterations, and maintenance of the Company’s mechanical facilities. This position will be the technical leader for enterprise analytics associated to the natural gas compression fleet. This engineer performs work tasks by using established guidelines and/or by relying on direction from more experienced engineers. As experience is gained, this position will perform a greater variety of work tasks using their experience, innovation, and judgment. 

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Collect and analyze data (g., customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals, etc.) to determine feasibility of design and/or application
  • Perform optimizations, troubleshooting, and feasibility studies
  • Participate in the specification of mechanical equipment
  • Support the testing and commissioning of various controls, software programs, and Intuitive HMI graphics software
  • Communicate with project teams to outline work plan, establish scope, assist with project estimates, and assign responsibilities
  • Coordinate goals, work plans, responsibilities, and resources with collaborating teams, and monitor work performance in alignment with business objectives
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with internal and external business partners
  • Verify that work products conform to applicable codes, standards, specifications, laws, regulations, ordinances, and requirements Function in lead capacity and, if requested, oversee the work of internal/external resources to ensure that quality and quantity of work are met
  • Compose reports, specifications, plans, studies and/or designs as needed
  • Suggest ways to improve, align, and maximize engineering processes, procedures, and policies
  • Review and approve work of Company staff, other companies, and consultants on assigned projects
  • Establish appropriate peer relationships to optimize activities with others throughout the Company
  • Assist with developing and implementing technical standards
  • Supervise the work of internal/external resources as needed, to ensure that quality and quantity of work are met
  • Serve as technical leader for company’s enterprise analytics system
  • Use analytical software and other tools to report asset metrics (e.g., overall equipment health, availability, parameter trends) and make recommendations to optimize reliability and overall asset
  • Provide specialized support and guidance to technical, operations, and IT personnel to ensure safety and reliability of natural gas compression equipment and supporting auxiliary equipment
  • Apply value analysis to make recommendations related to repairing, replacing, and/or redesigning compression equipment
  • Strategically identify critical spares, spare part storage and preservation requirements
  • Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activity programs and provide technical support to maintenance and operations functions in continuous improvement activities
  • Benchmark, track, and improve compression reliability
  • Support and/or lead efficiency studies utilizing equipment and system modeling
  • Participate and/or lead root-cause or failure analysis teams after equipment failure, as needed
  • Support and expand the use of company’s enterprise asset management system
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for compression and mechanical system engineering issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline (i.e., mechanical, electrical)
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability
  • 3+ years of experience in pipeline operations, pipeline maintenance, and/or construction practices relating to pipeline operations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead others
  • Ability to handle a wide range of interactions with customers
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience communicating technical information effectively to a nontechnical audience
  • Ability to teach area of expertise to others, one-on-one or in small groups
  • Experience in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently
  • Knowledge 2-cycle, 4-cycle, and turbine engine operations, along with their associated control systems
  • Knowledge in auxiliary systems required for the support of natural gas compression fleet
  • Ability to resolve problems related to reliability of compression fleet
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities

 

Preferred:

  • Fundamentals of Engineering certificate
  • Experience using OSI Pi or related analytics program
  • Experience with compressor station operation, maintenance, and control systems
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the use of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) in industrial control systems
  • Knowledge of industrial engines and compressors
  • Knowledge of natural gas transmission regulations (e.g., 49CFR 192, OSHA, etc.), company policies and procedures
  • Understanding in industrial engine and compressors machinery analysis techniques

 

Other requirements:

  • Ability to work overtime
  • Ability to work in varying office environments (e.g., open office, outside)
  • Ability to work and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment while remaining positive
  • Ability to travel up to 25% on average by car and/or plane
