Job Overview

Southern Star is currently seeking highly motivated and energetic students to join our team as summer interns. The Legal Internship offers hands-on experience supporting an in-house corporate legal department within a regulated industry while working alongside experienced legal and compliance professionals. Throughout the internship, the Legal Intern will gain practical experience by observing how legal, compliance, information governance and business teams collaborate to address organizational challenges, mitigate risk, and support business operations. In addition to meaningful project work, interns will shadow department personnel, participate in cross-functional meetings, and develop professional skills through networking opportunities, training sessions, and intern program activities across the Company.

Highlights/Internship Overview: This is a 12-week, competitively paid summer internship starting in May and ending in August. Interns work 40 hours per week with paid company holidays. A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the Southern Star work location if the successful candidate’s permanent home address and current college address is determined by Southern Star to be greater than reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location.

• You will gain meaningful, real-world experience through a legal or compliance project that impacts the Company
• Conduct research on legal, regulatory, and compliance issues affecting the Company’s operations
• Assist with contract administration, policy review, and legal document management
• Support compliance and information governance initiatives designed to mitigate business risk and promote regulatory compliance
• Analyze and summarize legislative and regulatory developments impacting the Company's operations
• Collaborate with legal and compliance team members on projects that support the Company's strategic and operational objectives
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• You must be 18 years of age by the start of the summer internship assignment
• You must be authorized to work in the United States
• Pursuing an undergraduate degree with a relevant pre-law major or enrolled in law school
• Plan to pursue a career in corporate, energy, regulatory, or compliance law
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Cooperative attitude with team-oriented disposition

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program
