This position reports to the Manager, Region Operations and is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of pipeline and compressor facilities for an assigned work location(s). This position will be responsible for overall leadership, implementation of strategies, management oversight, performance of employees, and achievement of goals and strategies for the assigned work location. The employee will be physically out on the job with assigned operations employees, which include operators, welders, heavy equipment specialists, and operations administrators. The majority of time will be spent leading and interacting with and providing daily work direction to these employees; ensuring adherence to safety practices and corporate policies, procedures, and contractual requirements; ensuring alignment with corporate direction, vision, mission, principles, strategies and goals; working with direct reports to improve processes and efficiencies; overseeing operations, maintenance, inspection, and testing criteria and construction jobs; identifying and recommending educational needs; ensuring all compliance requirements are met; and, improving procedures and work methods to better ensure operational safety, reliability, and efficiency. Communication Technician reports to and is directly accountable to the Leader, IT Communications.  This entry level position is accountable, under supervision, for installation, monitoring, diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance and operation of communication equipment and devices.  Individuals will work with all levels of IT and Operations personnel and accept assigned responsibilities; and will perform at a satisfactory level while maintaining positive and ethical relationships with others including customers, consultants, and vendors.  This technician will receive guidance and training from more senior level personnel within the Communications function of the Company, as well as technicians of other technical disciplines within the Company. The individual will be required to maintain and operate their assigned work locations in strict compliance with the Southern Star’s O&M Manual and State and Federal regulatory codes.

Southern Star is currently seeking highly motivated and energetic students or recent graduates to join our team as summer interns. The Corporate Communications Intern is exposed to a variety of project-based assignments and will receive mentorship, detailed orientation and training, and valuable work assignments.    Company Overview:  Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline is a leading transporter of natural gas to America’s heartland, providing quality service since 1904. It'sabout the people who make it happen and the communities we serve.    Job Overview:  This position offers a variety of opportunities, including shadowing and assisting Corporate Communications team members to gain a better understanding of communications tasks within an energy transmission company. The internship will include creative assignments including photographing company events and team members, creating graphics, writing stories for the weekly company newsletter, and contributing to Corporate Communications team’s messaging. The intern will also perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help build a strong network within the Southern Star community and with fellow interns. The position will be based at Southern Star headquarters in Owensboro, KY. Some travel to company events and field locations may be involved, including potential overnight stays.    Highlights:  - This is a 12-week, competitively paid summer internship starting in May and ending in August.  - Interns work 40 hours per week with paid company holidays.  - A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the Southern Star work location if the successful candidate’s permanent home address and current college address is determined by Southern Star to be greater than reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location.  - Participants are eligible for full-time employment upon successful completion of the Southern Star internship program.
